The ribbon transport mechanism is for typewriters and similar office machines, enabling a large number of ribbons to be used as desired. Wide or narrow ribbon casettes, accommodating wide or narrow ribbons in one or two colours in endless loops or spools, are fitted on the flanges of bearing pins by which an indexing motor is set to the desired amount of movement. The hollow motor shaft with gear drives via a directional coupling device such as a looped spring held at one end an ink transport roller via a further gear, a cap and a spring dog, and also a winding wheel via a slipping drive. The wheel turns in the other direction to transport a correcting ribbon, acting via other gears on a spool core.
