PURPOSE:To form a superior hardened image by adding nordihydroguaiaretic acid and a gallic acid alkyl ester to at least one of a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer and a hydrophilic colloid layer. CONSTITUTION:To at least one of a photosensitive silver halide photographic emulsion layer and other hydrophilic colloid layer on a support are added nordihydroguaiaretic acid of formula I in an amt. of about 0.01-1mol per mol of Ag and a gallic acid alkyl ester such as propyl gallate of formula II in an amt. of about 10<-5>- 10<-2>mol per mol of Ag. The resulting photosensitve material contains a developing agent which shows high developing activity when treated with an alkaline activator and whose oxidation product has appropriate hardenability to hydrophilic protective colloid. Accordingly, the hardenability of an unexposed portion is controlled, and a hardened image with superior photographic characteristics is formed. |
