Photothermographic mixt., giving a latent image on exposure to UV and Ir radiation, which can be developed by heat, contains a finely crystalline powder of Al and/or Zn hydride, pref. a complex hydride of the formula AlH3.R or ZnH2.R (in which R is a solvent fragment). This mixt. pref. is dispersed in a binder. The mixt. is useful for various photographic and duplicating processes. It avoids the use of costly Ag and Pd cpds. and forms latent images which can be kept for long periods. It has low sensitivity to visible light, allowing handling in diffuse daylight.
