The gas laser consists of a high-voltage anode (4) split into several parts and supported by the dielectric wall (2) which guides the gas stream. The carbon dioxide gas is fed through ports (5,6) of the tube 1 whose end covers hold the water cooled cathode tube. The gas is circulated by a pump with connections provided by bellows. Mirrors control the beam outside the anode elements. The small size of the electrically excited carbon dioxide laser is achieved by the use of separate component groups which include the electrodes and supply leads. This promotes easy stripping and replacement for repairs.
