The pipe-insulating shell comprises a sheet-metal plate bent approx. into a cylinder, or alternatively a thin-walled extruded open plastics tube. One lengthwise edge has a cranked portion, with which the other hooked edge engages. A number of holding lugs are set back from one of the lengthwise edges in the peripheral direction, and they are spaced apart and protruding from it. Each of these has a stop edge (48) facing away from the lengthwise edge, and against which the other lengthwise edge bears.
