The tank seal has a central float (2) on whose circumference a plurality of adjacently arranged and partially overlapping flat structures made of flexible material, e.g. spring sheets (3), are attached which project upwards in a curve. Attached to the free ends of the spring sheets are sliding bodies (5) which are in contact with the inside wall (1) of the tank, are, for example, convexly curved, and consist, for example, of polyfluorocarbon or polyolefin plastics. The overlapping parts of the flat structures are connected in a sliding manner by means of screws and nuts (8') and the sliding bodies are arranged laterally one above the other by overlapping. With this seal, any readily volatilising liquids, e.g. alcohol, located in the tank can be protected from volatilisation and contamination. <IMAGE>
