Title compds. (I or IV; R=substituted alkyl, phenyl, phenylalkyl, benzimidazolyl, naphthyl, quinolyl, cyano, etc.; n=0-2), useful as fungicide and insecticide, was prepd. by reaction of 2-halogeno-5=trifluoromethyl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazole(II; Y=Cl, Br) and mercaptane. Thus, 130.5 g 2-bromo-5-trifluoro methyl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazole was dropped in a mixed soln. of 98.1 g 3, 4-dichlorothiophenol and 57.6 g triethylamine in ethanol, and refluxed for 2 hr to give 147 g 2-(3', 4'-dichlorophenyl-thio)-5-trifluoromethyl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazole.
