PURPOSE:To obtain a restored picture of high density by forecasting and deciding on the density of each small picture element, obtained by sectioning unsampled marked picture elements sampled in a checkerboard pattern, by using the density of picture elements adjoining to the marked picture element and then by outputting them as black levels from the largest density value in sequence. CONSTITUTION:A read picture is divided into a square lattice-shaped group of picture elements, which are sampled alternately in a checkerboard pattern. Then, unsampled marked picture element X is divided into nine pieces in a square lattice shape to obtain small picture elements are on the bais of density information of four sampled picture elements surrounding picture element X, its density is decided by forecasting. Next, the density of sampled picture element S and the forecasted density of picture element X are quantized into ten levels to obtain marked picture element density values T1-T9. Denoting the marked picture element density value as K, small picture element density R1 corresponding to the maximum value among T1-T4, and T6-T9 is regarded as black when K<5 and this is repeated K time in sequence to regard the rest as white. When K>=5, Rm corresponding to minimum value Tm is regarded as white and this is repeated 9-K times sequentially to regard the remainder as black. When K=0, small picture density values R1-R9 are all white and when K=9, all are black. Thus, this is repeated until the maximum density picture element. |
