At points uniformly spaced out from each other along a mixing vessel, a strand of a substance such as clay, with a definite cross-section, is drawn off. The consistency of this is measured, outside the mixing vessel and the value obtd. is used to adjust the flow through a valve in a fluid feed line. Used for the mixing of clay in the prodn. of bricks, ensuring a uniform mixt. and a uniform end prod. Greater accuracy is achieved by taking the measurement outside the mixing vessel.
