This steel contains: - total boron : 30 to 100 ppm - N : 40 to 220 ppm - Al : 200 to 800 ppm and the total boron (Bt), N and Al contents expressed in ppm satisfy the following relationship: 10 N - 17 Bt - Al = - 300 +/- 200 This steel, which exhibits very high mechanical characteristics, especially both a quenchability and great toughness in the quenched state, is particularly suitable for the manufacture of articles employed in the processed state, or cemented and processed, such as shafts, gears and mechanical components of all kinds.
