Sulfoxides (I; R=C1-6 lower alkyl, phenyl, substituted phenyl, benzyl, C1-4 lower alkyl substituted benzyl, alkoxy, thioalkyl, halogen, haloalkyl, nitro, cyano; R1 and R2 are lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, C1-10 alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, C1-4 lower alkyl substituted phenyl and benzyl, thioalkyl, nitro, alkoxyl, halogen, haloalkyl, cyano) useful as herbicide, were prepd. by reacting thiocarbamate compds. (II) with peroxoformic acid at 0-60≦̸C.
