789,953. Stapling machines. AKT.-GES. FUR UNTERNEHMUNGEN DER EISENUND STAHLINDUSTRIE. July 31, 1956 [Aug. 1, 1955], No. 23613/56. Class 89(3) [Also in Group XXII] An infinitely variable continuous wire feed mechanism for a stapling machine comprises a first conical feed roll 1, Fig. 1, continuously driven at a constant speed by helical gears 3, 4, a second conical feed roll 5 urged against the feed roll 1 by a spring 9 and coupled to the roll 1 by bevel gearing 10, 11, and wire feed and delivery guides 13, 14, Fig. 2, for guiding the wire 12 through a gap between the rolls 1, 5, the position of the wire 12 in the gap being infinitely variable in a direction transverse to the direction of feed whereby the velocity of feed of the wire is varied. In the embodiment described the position of the guides 13, 14, and consequently the position of the wire 12, is fixed in relation to the machine frame and the rolls 1, 5 are mounted in a head 15 carried by a slidable bar 16 for displacement relatively to the machine frame in a direction transverse to the direction of feed of the wire. The bar 16 has a rack 20 engaged by a pinion 18 connected to a handwheel by which the adjustment of the position of the rolls 1, 5 is made. The rolls may remain stationary relative to the machine frame and the wire guide means made shiftable transversly to the direction of feed. |
