From a series of objects 13 delivered on an intermittently moving delivery conveyor 1, in a first station 15 every second object 13a is deposited on a number of webs 5 of packaging material, which are advanced, preferably continuously, below the delivery conveyor, and the remaining objects 13b in the same series are deposited on the same packaging material webs 5 in a following station 16. The objects are displaced sideways in connection with one or both depositing operations. The number of packaging material webs is hereby just half the number of objects 13 in each series, and the lateral spacing between the webs is therefore increased to such an extent that the webs can be sealed longitudinally and transversely by rotating sealing elements 6, 7, 8. Two objects each deposited at their own station 15, 16 one behind the other on the same web 5 each are brought into line with the transverse sealing by means of slides 21, which are cyclically moved backwards and forwards over the webs, and which during the forward movement push the objects in front of them on the web, and during the backward movement are raised clear of the rearmost object 13a. The transverse sealing may be undertaken by individually spring-loaded pairs of rotating sealing jaws. <IMAGE>
