Steaming cut pile fibres - to arrange them uniformly prior to adhering to backing

Steam is applied to upstanding cut pile fibres whilst they are restrained between moving conveyor surfaces or whilst they are fed from conveyor belt between upper and lower stationary steaming surfaces. The steamed fibres are then adhered to a backing to form a pile fabric or carpet. The steam spreads cut pile fibres into a more uniform array so as to avoid the backing showing through the pile of the finished fabric.
