PURPOSE:To improve the wear rasistance of a heat portion and head side portions of a rail without deforming the rail by a method wherein the head portion is rapidly heated in an austenite region while moving the rail at an erecting condition, and the head portion is cooled with water while downwardly pushing the head portion at an outlet of a heating furnace. CONSTITUTION:A rail 4 is introduced into a heating furnace 7 through a constraining device 6 at an erecting condition, and a head top surface 1a and head flanks 1b are quickly changed into austenite and heated. The rail 4 discharged from the heating furnace 7 is forcedly bent downward by means of a push roll 10 while the head top portion 1a and the left-right both head side portions 1b of the rail 1 are cooled by the injection of cooling water jetted from a nozzle header 2. The rail is hardly subject to the deformation of an upward warp, etc., and the head top portion and the head side portions are turned into minute pearlite structure up to considerably deep portions from the surfaces, thus remarkably improving the wear resistance of the head top portion and the head side portions which contact with wheels. |
