PREPARATION OF IMPROVED VACCINE FOR HOOPING COUGH

PURPOSE:The vaccine for hooping cough is treated with purified tannin from persimmon and then with hydrogen peroxide to remove or inactivate the toxic ingredients participating in the side-effects. CONSTITUTION:A dispersion of dead cells of Homophilus pertussis in the physiological salt solution and a purified tannin from persimmon or condensed tannin therefrom are mixed to form a precipitate of light-brown cells. The precipitated cells are dispersed in the physiological salt solution or a phosphate buffer solution adjusted to about 7 pH and treated with hydrogen peroxide to give title vaccine. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide is preferably 3-10%. This treatment inhibits or inactivates lymphocytosis accelerating factor and histamine sensitizing factor without any adverse effect on immunogen. The resulting vaccine is better than conventional vaccine and vaccine treated with purified-tannin in irritating properties.
