Television monitoring system for checking moving objects - uses flash light composed of array of light emitting diodes

The television monitoring system has numerous coplanar LEDs acting as a composite flashlight illuminating the object when the latter is in a position suitable for viewing with the television camera. The camera then records the image of the object. A scattering window is located between the object and the LEDs. The LEDs may be controlled individually, in groups or all together. If the object is round then the LEDs may lie in concentric rings. Uniform illumination may be attained by a suitable spacing between the LEDs and/or by varying the current depending on any LED's position. The advantage lies in small size, long life and high reliability.
