The UV lamp has the ends (8) of its tubular envelope held in ceramic components (6) designed such that one of the tapering ends of the tube can be adjusted along the tube's axis in the component. Each component holds the tube's end at three places defined by small plates (5) that slide in slots to the wanted depth in the ceramic component. The plates are made of ceramic fibres with binder and have sloping (5') inside corners facing the tube end and matching the shape of the tube end. A protective tube (1) encloses the lamp and is held between two end bosses embodying the ceramic components.
