A pressure relief opening in partitions of nuclear reactor buildings is closed by a screening element which is designed as a hollow sheet metal wing with an eccentric pivot. In its closed position the wing is filled with a granular screening material which is prevented from falling out by a surface of the wall openings. After swinging into the open position in which the granules fall out, the wing is kept open by an interlock. In an emergency pressure relief case, only the granules are expelled and no damage can be caused to structures or to personnel.
