The stiffener insert for packing a shirt, comprises a central main panel and lateral panels (1) to either side which can be folded back on to the main panel, together with lateral portions of the shirt, about one or more fold lines (4). The side panels (1) are formed as cut-outs from the main panel and remain connected to the lateral edges of the main panel via a border strip (2) and a fold line (3) which permits them to be folded out. A parallel fold line (4) further outwards permits the side panels (1) to be folded back on to the main panel.
