Connector for optical fibres with focussing elements - has optical fibre front faces in both connector parts in focal planes of respective offset focussing elements

The optical fibres connector enables coupling of four fibres as compared with the conventional couplers for two fibres only. They are interconnected via two focussing elements with parallel main axes, while their secondary axes lie on a common straight line. The optical fibres (6', 7') are arranged in both parts of the connector (1, 2) and have their front surfaces in the focal plane of the respective focussing element (4, 5). They are offset from their secondary axes. The corresp. optical fibres in both connector parts are offset diametrally from the secondary axis in relation to each other. The two connector parts are formed by sleeves connected to an overthrow nut (3). Each sleeve contains a focussing biconvex lens of identical focal length.
