The noise protection tunnel has a roof (4) which rests on walls (2) arranged on the right and left of the roadway and has ribs (5) running transversely to the roadway and projecting into the interior space of the tunnel. Attached below the ribs (5) are sound-insulating or sound-absorbing, flat-spread elements (8) which cover the space between two ribs (5) so that passages are obtained which are defined by the ribs (5), the slab of the roof (4), and the flat-spread elements (8). In addition, the side surfaces of the ribs (5) and the bottom surface of the slab of the roof (4) are lined with sound-absorbing material (7). The roof (4) has apertures (6) which form the supply-air and exhaust-air openings for the passages. The supply-air and exhaust-air openings are arranged in such a way that a natural air exchange is possible at a low level of noise in the environment. <IMAGE>
