<p>A method for producing a composite retro-reflecting system comprising a transparent globule having an uncoated first partially essentially part-spherical surface portion positioned for light impingement and a plurality of light beams focusing and reflecting means, there means comprising transparent microspheres externally coated by a reflective coating, adjacent and secured by a transparent binder substance to a second surface portion opposite the first surface portion. The method comprises the step of causing a heated sheet of uniform thickness and made of a thermoplastic transparent polymeric material to be forcedly calendered between two adjacent parallel forming cylinders having forming recesees evenly and equally arranged on their cylindrical surfaces and phasedly counter rotated for producing from the sheet an essentially planar intermediate product having opposite faces comprising a plurality of bulges designed to form the first and respectively the second globule surface portions, the bulges being interconnected by thin breakable parts, and the step of producing the globules by detaching from each other parts each including a pair of oppositely located bulges.</p> |
