<p>A method and fluid filter apparatus are provided herein. The method effects the cleaning of a clogged fluid filtering member situated in a filter housing between an inlet port and an outlet port of the housing by the steps comprising: utilizing at least a portion of the fluid to be filtered from the inlet port to impart motion to a movable hollow cleaning body provided in the housing in fluid communication with a specially provided valved cleaning outlet port; removing matter unable to pass through the filter element, and carrying the matter into a fluid intake portion of the cleaning body and out the cleaning outlet port; the hollow body being imparted the motion by virtue of the fluid flow in the path established through the hollow body between the fluid intake portion and the cleaning outlet port when the valved cleaning outlet port, which normally is closed, is opened. The fluid filter apparatus comprises a housing having an inlet port, an outlet port and a valved cleaning outlet port, the housing defining a fluid passage between the inlet port and the outlet port via a tering member; a hollow filter cleaning body movably mounted with the housing and having at least one fluid intake portion adapted to move in close proximity to the surface of the filtering member and to provide a fluid flow path between the intake portion and the valved cleaning outlet port via the hollow body; and a fluid responsive means positioned in the flow path operable to cause the movement of the cleaning body as a result of fluid flow in the flow path. The arrangement is such that when the filter member is at least partly clogged by matter separated from the fluid, the valved cleaning outlet port is opened, causing fluid to be filtered to flow via the intake portion through the hollow body into the valved cleaning outlet port and thereby to actuate the fluid response means to cause the movement of the cleaning body. This provides a low cost fluid filter method and system in which the movable cleaning body effectively loosens and frees dirt which is stuck in the small holes of the filter.</p> |
