<p>A device in cargo hatches to effect automatic battening-down of the transverse joint between two hatch sections while making use of the weight of the hatch sections to achieve efficient sealing of the joint. The device comprises abutment means on one of the hatch sections and catches on the other hatch section which means are arranged to mesh when the hatch sections are moved to closing position, thus effecting displacement of a member to press a gasket and sealing strip provided at said joint into sealing engagement.</p> |
