Panels of rigid plastics foam with relatively shallow stepped ends are reinforced across the full width of one face and each of the stepped ends with a layer of material firmly bonded to or integrated with the foam surface. Pref. the reinforcement is of glass fibre mat or cloth. Used esp. for panels for covering ceilings, mounted so that the reinforced layer carries the load of the panels and any ancillary superficial layers or dressings without tearing of the foam layer by tension of associated fastenings passing through the panels or its edges. The panels may be supported by a corrugated sheet metal.
