NEW MATERIAL:Periandrine IV of formula (M is H or alkali cation). Melting point, >300 deg.C; specific rotatory power, [alpha]D<22>+96 deg. (c=2.5, water); elemental analysis, C42H64O16.3H2O; solubility, easily soluble in water, soluble in pyridine, slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol; appearance, colorless crystalline powder. USE:Sweetening agent. PROCESS:Roots or dried roots of a plant belonging to Periandra genus, e.g. Periandra mediteranea, Periandra dulcis, etc., are optionally chipped and crushed, and extracted with water or a mixture of water and a hydrophilic organic solvent (80% conc.) at >=pH3. The extract is subjected to acid precipitation process to obtain the objective substance. |
