PURPOSE:To prevent impure gases from being adsorbed on a cathode and lengthen the lifetime of a laser tube, by sufficiently raising the temperature of the cathode and then applying a voltage to auxiliary electrodes to cause discharge to operate the laser tube comprising the cathode, an anode and the auxiliary electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A laser tube 2 is composed of a cathode 3, an anode 4, auxiliary electrodes 6, 5 located near the cathode and the anode, etc. A circuit, which is connected to these members, comprises, comprises a main DC power source 1, a trigger diode 9, an auxiliary power source 11, an inverse current prevention diode 14, a heater transformer 15, an after-heating timer 17, a delaying timer 19, etc. A power switch 16 is closed to heat the cathode 3 through the timer 17. When the temperature of the cathode 3 is raised enough, the timer 19 is operated to apply the output of the auxiliary power source 11 to the electrodes 6, 5 through the diode 14 to cause discharge among all the electrodes. |
