Extrusion press strand production - with process computer control for optimum crop end length

Strands of a desired length are produced by an extrusion press which processes a bar of a preselected length. The strand length is measured during the extrusion and on reaching the desired length and extrusion is interrupted and the preselected length is corrected to achieve a min. crop end. The crop end includes contaminats and protects the press die against overstress. The new method keeps it to an optimum thickness and eliminates unnecessary scrap.
