A process for exploitation by soln. of minerals in a stratum contd. ina subterranean formation comprises first providing a first series of shafts penetrating into the formation. The next stage is a first pahse of injection and prodn. It comprises injecting a leaching soln. through at least one of the first series of shafts into a first vol. to solubilise the minerals and to form a mother liquor, and recovering the mother liquor from this first vol. by at least one other of the first series of shafts. The next stage is a first phase of prodn. only. It consists of suspending the injection of the leaching soln. into the first vol. and recovering supplementary mother liquor from the first vol. through at least one other of the first series of shafts. This is followed by a second phase of injection and prodn. The minerals are sepd. from the mother liquor recovered during the second, third and fourth stages. Suspension of the injection of leaching soln. during the phase of prodn. only gives an improved rate of recovery of e.g. uranium with lower expenditure on chemical prods., compared to exsitign processes. |
