<p>The double insulator support for high voltage wiring, 100kV etc, with a triangular frame is designed so that if one insulator breaks the second can provide direct support to the high tension wires. The unit is designed to support either single or double, one above other, wires. The support (12) is symmetrical with the triangle base (13) carrying the insulators (6, 7) and the apex (14) being a plate for the support force (F) and connection of the side arms (2, 3). Under normal conditions the support force is equally displaced down the triangular frame so that the apex plate (14) has a main load line (15) down its centre due to the equal forces (16, 17) up each side arm (2, 3). The relationship between base of the apex plate (14) and base between insulators (13) is 4:1 with the insulator base being the longer. Should one insulator fracture the apex plate pulls the defective unit clear as it takes the load down one arm.</p> |
