Electronic component panel connection system - has hole through panel for insertion and soldering, with optional fitting of protection disc

Electronic components i.e. diodes (1) are mounted on a base plate (8) i.e. a printed circuit board which has a hole (5) through the board underneath the diode. The diode is mounted above this hole on the component side (7) of the board, with its wires (4) passing through, for soldering to the conductive side (9). The ends of the wires pass through holes (10) through the board at the soldering points. A protective disc (12) with holes for threading the wires (4) through it, can be fitted into the hole before soldering to protect the component from heat during soldering, also protecting it from shock. The arrangement allows faulty compoments, to be easily replaced. The disc may also incorporate a locating flange.
