PURPOSE:To form a wash-off relief image with high photographic density and superior quality by using a polyhydroxyspirobischroman type compound and a gallic acid alkyl ester as a tanning developer. CONSTITUTION:To a silver halide emulsion layer or other hydrophilic colloid layer are added a polyhydroxyspirobischroman type compound represented by formula I [where R is H or (substituted) 1-10C alkyl and the substituent is halogen, OH, COOH, alkoxy or the like] and a gallic acid alkyl ester represented by formula II (where R' is 1-10C alkyl). The compounds of formulae I, II are stable in the emulsion layer over a long time, do not tan unexposed portions, and diffuse in a gelatin film at an appropriate rate. Accordingly, a photosensitive material with superior stock preservability is obtained. |
