An apparatus for helically winding sheet metal to firm a larger diam. pipe is composed of the meams for forming and interconnecting adjacent edges of the sheet by rabbeting, the drive means for driving the rolls, the hinge means interconnecting adjacent ones of the units for relative pivotal adjustment about substantially parallel axes and the means connected to the units for adjusting the angular relationship between adjacent ones of the units comprising a threaded spindle rotatable about an axis perpendicular relative to the substantially parallel axes and threadedly engaging adjacent ones of the units.
