PURPOSE:To stabilize the level of an ink liquid by connecting a small ink fountain and a large ink fountain through an air tube for supply of compressed air to an ink jet head and providing a flow path operating means in the air tube which supplies compressed air to the small ink fountain. CONSTITUTION:If a power supply is turned ON to equipment, a clogging protective unit 13 leaves a carriage 12 and an air supply device 6 is actuated. Then the compressed air whose pressure is adjusted by a solenoid valve 5 is supplied to a large ink fountain 3, a small ink fountain 2 and an ink jet head 1 through tubes 70-73. If the carriage 12 moves to reset a microswitch 16, the internal pressure of the small ink fountain 2 increases rapidly to balance out with the internal pressure of the large ink fountain 3. A residual ink supplied to the small ink fountain 2 flows back to the large ink fountain 3 from an opening 41 in a make-up tube 4. The carriage 12 reaches an area before a washing unit 14 and is stopped by a microswitch 17. The ink jet head 1 is cleaned by the washing unit 14, and the carriage 12 returns to a home position by a return command. |
