The novel composition containing a uranyl ion has the formula I <IMAGE> in which L is a ligand selected from the group consisting of isopropanol, ethanol, isobutanol, tertiary butanol, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, acetone, dimethylformamide, n-propanol and ethyl acetate. The abovementioned composition can be used for separating uranium isotopes. <IMAGE>
