1434314 Activated carbon; apparatus TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 1 April 1974 [16 April 1973] 14316/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] An apparatus for preparing activated carbon comprises a shaft kiln 10 whose cavity is divided by a perforated gas flow distributer 13 into a lower (or combustion) chamber 12 and an upper (or reaction) chamber 11, which latter chamber is divided by vertical partition walls 14 into two or more activation compartments; the first compartment is provided with a means for supplying carbonaceous material at a constant rate thereinto, and the last compartment is provided with a means for removing activated carbon at a constant rate therefrom, there being passages 15 in the partition walls 14 so that the material may flow as a fluidized bed from the first compartment via any intermediate compartments to the last compartment; the lower chamber 12 is provided with a fuel burner 20 for heating the carbonaceous material in said compartments and a means 22 for supplying activating gas thereto, and exhaust gases are discharged through a vent 19 connected to the upper chamber 11. A portion of the exhaust gas may be passed through pipe 25 and used to preheat the activating gas. The partition walls 14 may be radially arranged, as shown, or they may be arranged in a parallel fashion, or as coaxial cylinders. |
