Pyrimidine cpds. of formula (I) (where R1 is H, lower alkyl or lower alkenyl; R2 is lower alkyl or lower alkenyl) are new. (I) show a selective herbicidal effect in the cultivation of crops such as rice plant and peas. They can be used for soil treatment (pre-emergent treatment) and in foliage treatment. It does not affect adversely crops such as rice plant and peas.
