<p>A prefabricated modular block for constructing washrooms etc. comprises a slab of lightweight concrete of e.g. 300 x 125 x 15 cm precast in a mould incorporating as inserts pipework and plumbing fittings to receive external taps etc. for discharging hot or cold water or accepting waste water. Pref. the concrete uses an aq. binder and incorporates a low density filler, e.g. particles of expanded polystyrene. The pipework is pref. flexible or semirigid, e.g. of crosslinked polyethylene, and may be enclosed in flexible sheath. Pre-plumbed blocks are relatively quick to install, and the internal components are relatively well protected in transit. The insulating filler improves resistance to temp. and humidity variations.</p> |
