The device comprises a first duct (44) connected to the output of the combustion chamber, a second duct (46) connected to the stack and a box (12) forming a deflector connecting the two ducts. The box (12) has a partly or completely open bottom (30) situated above the base of the heating installation. The open bottom (30) serves as a cold air intake. The box (12) allows a pressure column of cold air to be established under the first duct and prevents the returning down-currents from entering the combustion chamber where the heat is thus trapped. <IMAGE>
