Heat-transfer medium for power stations, and process for the production thereof

The heat-transfer medium, for power stations, based on nitrogen tetroxide also contains nitrogen monoxide in an amount of 0.5 to 3 per cent by weight. This heat-transfer medium is produced by reducing nitrogen tetroxide vapours using reducing agents, specifically molten alkali metal nitrites, at a temperature of 270 to 550 DEG C, the nitrogen tetroxide being used in an amount of 1 to 115 kg per 1 kg of the aforementioned reducing agent. A heat-transfer medium of this kind does not transfer metal mass in the circuit of the power station.
