The shaft or manhole cover has a circular lid caned by a frame which is anchored to the ground and has support faces and guide faces for the lid. The lid (21) has a middle section (31) and three side sections (32). The regular triangular profile of the middle section (31) and the arc section profile of each of the three equal side sections are complementary. Each joint separating the middle section (31) and a side section (32) has elastic seals which are flexible in the plane of the lid at right angles to the longitudinal extension of the seam (34). A coupling device between middle section (31) and each of the side sections has a stop and a guide between the two sections so that the side section can be adjusted with respect to the middle section.
