The electric switch with a thermal cut-out has a push button (3) with a spring (11) behind it, tending to push the button outwards into the disengaged position. Behind the button is a swinging member (4) which is forced by a spring (5) against the first part (6) of a contact arm (7). This has a bearing end side, supported by carrier members (9, 10), and connected at one end to a live connection. When the button is pressed, an L-shaped block is moved backwards so that the contact arm (7) is moved downwards to engage a counter contact (15) on an L-shaped contact member (26). This rests directly at the top against the bimetallic element (22). This element has a horizontal arm which lifts from contact with the contact member (26) when heated.
