(I) is prepd by reacting 1 mole of bis(2-dimethylaminoethyl)sulphide (II) with 2 moles of decyl monochloroacetate (III), pref in acetone at 50-70 degrees C for >=4 hr. Claimed chemotherapeutic bactericidal prepns pref contain (i) 0.001-0.5 wt% of (I) in physiological saline or (ii) 0.1-2.0 wt% of (I) in an ointment base (e.g. an emulsion of polyvinyl butyl ether). Claimed growth regulators contain 0.0001-0.1 wt% of (I) in H2O. (I) is useful (a) as an antibacterial and antifungal agent, e.g. for local or systemic application in human and veterinary medicine and dentistry, and (b) as a plant growth regulator, e.g. for dwarfing cereals.
