Device for aligning the chips in hardboard cakes which are deposited on supports has a number of vertically spaced guide surfaces whose spacing is smaller than the lengths of the chips. Guide surfaces are associated with a number of juxtaposed chains moving alternately in opposite directions and provided with spaced vertically upwardly and downwardly projecting noses which are guided in corresp. shaped grooves in the surfaces.
