The coupling which joins the cannula of a catheter to its protective sheath has a part made from elastically deformable material. The elastically deformable section is designed so that it can be easily gripped by the thumb and index finger. The section may also be formed with concave gripping surfaces, so that the cannula can be prevented from slipping out when the protective sheath is withdrawn, and also the reduced friction enables the doctor to sense more accurate the position of the catheter relatively to the bodily cavity.
