Railway track sleeper dowel working machine - has centring unit and swivelling carriers automatically positioning tools on dowels

The swivelling carriers are mounted on a travelling frame, with bearing tools operated in stages to work on rail fixing components, esp. sleeper dowels plugs. Each tool carrier (6) swivels a about a vertical axis (5) through the rail centre, between two defined positions. In one position, a centering element is at an interval from the axis plane, equal to prescribed dowel interval from rail axis. In the other position tools are sited in this element's previous position. Thus setting of the centering element (10) on the dowel, and carrier swivel, positions the tools precisely for dowel working. This permits extensive mechanisation and systematic working, and rapid operation without using highly skilled labour.
