PROCESS FOR PRODUCING SELF-ADHEZIVE BITUMEN COMPOSITION CONTAINING PYROSHALE FOR ROAD BUILDING

Bituminous compsns. for filing expansion gaps and joints in road surfaces are produced by first mixing 20-45 wt. % of ground rubber and 55-80 wt. % of a petroleum oil fraction or extract at 20-100 r.p.m. and 25-120 degrees C for 1-3 hr. The mixt. (100 pts. wt.) is then stirred for 30 min. while adding 25-50 pts. wt. of spent oil shale and/or cement, and then mixed with 150-250 pts. wt. of preheated (160-180 degrees C) cold-resisting blown bitumen for 1-3 hr. Premixing (swelling) the rubber with petroleum oil improves the properties of the compsn., giving elastic products with a broad plastic temp. range and good adhesion to metals, concrete and asphalt. The products can be used as a ready-made strip or as a hot-pourable mass.
