<p>Hitherto colza grains have been crushed and pressed to extract the oil and the resulting oil cake has been used as a food for large cattle. The heat disengaged during crushing causes the oil to surround the tegument from which is cannot be sped. In the new process the colza grains are heated to 54 degrees C., this increases their diam. and they are sent to batteries provided with baffle sheets, in a current of cold air. The tegument is split on impact with sheets. The tegument is removed in other batteries and the oil is extracted from the decorticated grains in a bolting machine. There are no moving parts in the plant which could cause the evolution of heat, so that grains do not suffer damage; the maintenance costs of the plant are low and it has a great degree of flexibility.</p> |
