Thicker weft wires are offset asymmetrically to the plane of the other weft wires in a woven fabric, into a higher plane. These thicker wires are fixed at predetermined spacing by single warp wires only. The woven fabric produced is much cheaper than gauzes obtained by welding all the junctions of warp and weft wires, and have the advantage in addition to their stiffening characteristics, that they form holders for catalysts, filtration media, etc. whilst at the same time the other surface is quite smooth.
|
